Greetings,
Thank you for your interest in the Austin Children’s Choir! We had a fabulous
time in our 2009-2010 Season entitled Resilience: Humanity’s Belief in Hope.
The full season runs from the end of August through May.
Entering its 25th Anniversary Season, the Austin Children’s Choir is an
organization that serves children age 6-18 who have a love for singing. We
couple music literacy and music education with performances that enhance
the life of our community. We are an award winning choral ensemble, earning
the 2008 Austin Critic’s Award for the Best Choral Performance for our World
Premiere Performance of The Odyssey. We are a down to earth community
where the child’s spirit is paramount and their creative gifts embraced and
nurtured. Each member is a friend to all.
The audition lasts 15-20 minutes and is friendly and welcoming. Parents are
encouraged to attend to observe our teaching style. I sing with the children if
they prefer. I like for the child to sing a familiar song such as America the
Beautiful or Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star in addition to a song they want to
share. (An additional song is not mandatory but welcomed if they have one).
We then go over activities for rhythm and echoing. I explain everything
throughout our meeting together.
Our weekly two-hour rehearsal takes place on Thursdays at St. Matthews
Episcopal Church, corner of Steck and Mesa, caddy corner from Anderson
High School. Physical address is 8134 Mesa Dr, 78759. The time of rehearsal
depends on the age and placement of your child 4:30-6:30/5:00-7:00/6:00-8:00.
Our membership cap is 75 children.
We have three Concert Season performances, a couple Community Building
events, and various contract performances which are optional but often times
as much fun as the major concerts! (Weddings, special appearances, SXSW,
etc). The uniform cost is separate and can be purchased at Parker Uniforms.
To keep tuition costs down there are participation requirements in
fundraising events. We offer a variety of ways to help with fundraising.
Tuition for our 25th Anniversary Season is $550, commitment to two
fundraising events, and the cost of the uniform.
We can set up an audition at your convenience. Auditions are scheduled by
appointment. I look forward to hearing from you.
